It Was Supposed to Make Life Easier

When getting back to basics helps more than adding something else.

I’ve got plenty to do this week. What I could do with is something that takes a few jobs off my hands. Yet it’s surprisingly easy to go looking for help and come back with more things to do.

Something to set up. Something to practise. Something else to learn before you can use the thing that was supposed to help. Meanwhile, everything you needed help with is still waiting.

It’s made me look at what I’m actually adding. Does it make something easier, or am I spending more time managing it than doing the thing I wanted to do?

I love learning. Courses, spiritual practices, new ways of working — I can get happily absorbed in all of it. I don’t want to stop being curious, but I can be interested in something without giving it a permanent job in my life.

Back to what I love best

I see this in Healing work too. There are so many techniques and tools being offered, and some of what I’ve learnt has become a useful part of the way I work.

But when I come back to what I love best, it’s the basic Energy Healing.

Reading and intuiting the energy, being with someone and working with what comes through. And reading Tarot. That’s what I fell in love with in the first place and most times, it’s when I let the work be that simple that it feels strongest.

Learning something new gives me another way to work when it fits. It doesn’t mean I need to fit it into every session. The person in front of me matters more than finding a use for everything I’ve learnt.

And I think we can lose sight of that with other things we enjoy. We start with something quite simple, then gradually collect all the things that go with it. More equipment, more preparation, more instructions about how to do it properly.

Eventually, getting ready to do it can take more effort than we have available. So we do it less.

Perhaps we don’t need to give it up. Perhaps we need to remember which bit we actually liked.

Something to try

Choose one thing that’s become a bit of a performance. It could be a hobby you hardly get round to, a routine that’s supposed to help you feel better, or something you use to organise your day.

Ask yourself:

  • What did I want from this when I started?

  • Which part actually gives me that?

  • What have I added that I could leave out?

Try the simpler version for a week. You might miss something and put it back. You might find you’re doing it more often because there’s less to get through before you can start.

For me, coming back to basics means more room for the Healing, energy and Tarot I love. There’s still plenty I want to explore. I just want to spend more of my time doing the work than adding things around it.

If you’d like to experience that work for yourself, you can explore my Healing & Tarot sessions here, in person or online. ❤️. ❤️
